Crowne Plaza Milwaukee-Wauwatosa Receives Prestigious Gold Award for Interior Design

Crowne Plaza brand’s first new prototype and model for future hotels with design features found in today’s modern homes

WAUWATOSA, WI (March 18, 2009) Crowne Plaza® Milwaukee-Wauwatosa, the upscale and innovative metro hotel located in the heart of the Milwaukee County Research Park, and its design firm, TWP Architecture of Elm Grove, WI , have been tapped for the prestigious Gold Award from the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Wisconsin Chapter. The hotel’s 2008 transformation was directed by Lisa Blazek ASID, Jennifer Wagner ASID, John Curran and Eric Halbur, all of TWP.

Crowne Plaza Milwaukee-Wauwatosa is owned by New Berlin, WI-based KL Hotel, LLC and managed by Lane Hospitality of Northbrook, IL, under a license agreement with a company in the InterContinental Hotels Group .

As the first new prototype to open for InterContinental Hotels Group’s Crowne Plaza brand, Crowne Plaza Milwaukee-Wauwatosa is designed to support its The Place to Meet™ positioning and serves as a model for future new-build hotels. The 198-room entirely smoke-free prototype replicates many of the residential design features found in today’s modern homes.

Two important elements of the project include the region’s newest full-service Conference Center, meeting and events facility – with 7,900 sq. feet of flexible space showcasing the best in audiovisual technology and aesthetic comfort – and “Innovation”, the trendy upscale restaurant and lounge.

Design highlights of the eight-story complex include:

  • Soaring, contemporary two-story lobby.
  • The hot, new Innovation restaurant and lounge with a sleek, refined décor of dark copper and gold metallic; featuring plush seating, sculptural fixtures and subtle Kinetics lighting.
  • The latest in stylish, flexible meetings and banquet facilities with the 5,000-square-foot Grand Crowne Ballroom, Grande Salon pre-function area, and seven meeting rooms. Movable partitions/walls create a variety of space, along with natural lighting and multi-zone, controllable lighting.
  • Sleek, beautifully appointed guestrooms and suites designed for function and comfort; Crowne Plaza Sleep Advantage® with plush linens and sleep amenities, interactive flat screen TV, ergonomic chair and mobile workstation, and task lighting.
  • Sustainable products utilized throughout hotel’s design; b est practices address linen reuse, water conservation and energy efficiencies with programs that save water, energy and reduce solid waste while offering non-intrusive, high quality, eco-friendly products and services to guests.
